IN GOOD HANDS

minute make

One of Zara’s favourite shows on CBeebies (besides Charlie and Lola – check out our GOOD LIFE party on this one) is Mister Maker. I think she enjoys arts and crafts as much as I do! What I really like about the programme besides the fact that it taught her all the shapes is that they have this Make it in a Minute segment.

This is where Mister Maker will do something in 60 seconds or less and there is Tockey (the cuckoo clock keeping time). The reason why I mention all of this, is as much as I love a good craft (checkout all our features under IN GOOD HANDS) sometimes there is just not enough hours in the day! So I will be sure to feature every now and again our very own MAKE IT IN A MINUTE!

Starting with these Trick or Treat Lunch paper bags! Brilliant and so easy to do! Plus we have some great ideas what you can do in the future with extra lunch bags (oh! And some extra time!).

HALLOWEEN

trick or treat

Are you getting ready for Halloween? Well, I have sorted out the girls costumes this year, and I am taking a shortcut… for Bailey’s first birthday we had a Circus theme, so I had made these really cute outfits that I am going to reuse for Halloween – so I am sending in the clowns. Which is actually quite ironic because I am so scared of clowns since I saw IT!

If you need something quick to dress up how about one of these sequined masks? Or are the kids going trick or treating – got to get one of these buckets. And lastly sneak in a trick or two for those neighbours who don’t have any candy to give them!

THE REAL GOOD LIFE

pooh bear

As promised the photos and tips for throwing a Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower.

REAL GOOD PARTY ADVICE

I always say pick a theme for a baby shower, and better yet one that co ordinates with the baby’s soon to be nursery, that way many of the decorations can serve dual purpose as nursery decorations afterwards. Like the Winnie the Pooh rug and wall stickers used.

The perfect centerpieces have to be soft toys, not only are these too cute, they can be played with by kids at the party and afterwards for many years to come. A fond way to remember the special day.

Balloons have in the past been given such a bad rep at parties, but nowadays you can get such pretty colours and what’s more In Good Company sells the giant round kind that really do look amazing!

Plastic toy figurines make great cupcake toppers.

We used the Disney characters on all of the stationery: save the date, invitations, food labels and thank you cards. This is a good idea for any occasion and can be anything from a motif to a monogramme.

The best way to get a theme of colour scheme across is through the table linen; in this case we were lucky as Winnie the Pooh fabric is readily available. But this would work equally well in relaying just the colour palette.

Bingo was played during the present opening by assigning a number to each gift, this gives time for the guest of honour to enjoy opening the gifts and keeps the guests attention. The bingo cards used are a free download at marthastewart.com.

Only a few days now to go before our Christmas Shop opens! The excitement is mounting and I can hear the sound of jingle bells in my head! Speaking of which Christmas Carols are the themes of our Christmas range… so seeing that I am alreading humming it – here is a sneak peek at JINGLE BELLS – jingle all the way - oh what fun!

GOOD HOUSE

table duo

We have been struggling to find a coffee table for the Good House’s lounge area, so I came up with a good alternative until we find the one we really want. We bought two simple glass and chrome square side tables, and are going to have these sit alongside each other in the centre of the room. This serves the same function as a coffee table, but has the added advantage that they can be split up to make more room as well as have new purpose should we finally find the dream piece! Best of all these two came at a nice price available from Mr Price Home.

GOOD IDEA

lulu

Sometime party inspiration can come from the most unlikely sources… like take this bag for example from Lulu Guinness. The design is such a good idea: take a flag postcard and cut it out in the shape of some lips. This would have made the perfect invitation for our REAL GOOD LIFE article London’s Calling, when we kissed friend’s goodbye as they headed over to Britain. And this idea can be used for any farewell party simply change the flag for their destination.

HALLOWEEN

love it…

This is the first I’ve ever heard of this Halloween tradition, but it is such a great idea! What don’t you start “BOOING” the neighbourhood…

Details below from the www.tomkatstudio.blogspot.com

Last year, we had the pleasure of experiencing our first "BOO" from our neighbors! A few days before Halloween, our doorbell rang... T & K ran to the door only to see kids running down the street! We opened the door and found a box of cute cupcakes, along with a sign that explained that we had been "BOOED" and instructions on how to keep the fun going in the neighborhood! SO CUTE!

Now that we are in a new neighborhood and don't know if anyone "BOOS" around here, we're going to start the fun next week by "BOOING" Tommy's teacher who lives in the neighborhood, along with our sweet next door neighbors! Speaking of Tommy's teacher, how sweet was this cookie she brought over when we were moving in... yum!

I created a printable template and instructions for you to use to "BOO" your favorite neighbors!

FUN AND GAMES

do you suduko?

I don’t but my dad, and surprisingly my mom are addicted. The little memo pack of sudukos I bought for them in the US gave me a really good idea. For a thoughtful and so easy-to-do fun and games activity at your next dinner party or book club is to place one at each place setting, with a tiny pencil. You might also like to do something similar with:

Crossword puzzle

Word Search

Triva Pursuit cards

Or how about one of the cards from our Just Joking or After Dark Table Talk range. More choices available in our shop…

Just Joking

A trivia box with 60 jokes for all the family. Great as a gift or just for fun around the table. 'Why didn't the banana snore?' 'It was afraid it would wake up the rest of the bunch!' 'Why did the crab get arrested?' 'Because he was always pinching things!' Patient: Doctor, doctor I feel like a pair of curtains Doctor: Pull yourself together man.

R35 per box

After Dark Table Talk

Introduce some new topics to your dinner party. Play any way you like, ask your partner or better still divide into teams. Table Talk comprises of 2 boxes each containing 60 question cards with subjects to discuss like "What would be your desert island luxury?" Duo pack contains "Table Talk" and "Controversial Conversations".

R80 for set of 2 boxes

GOOD LOOKS LIST

checklist

I know it is not always necessary but when I plan a party I have a little checklist, and it goes something like this (I think you will notice that this is exactly what all the headings are of our GOOD LOOKS articles):

INSPIRATIONS
INVITATIONS
INTRODUCTION
DECORATIONS
TABLE
MENU
FUN & GAMES
FAVOURS

Now, there is obviously a lot more to each one, but this is my starting point… so maybe the next time you are planning a party you might want to try brainstorming along these lines… more details about each category to follow under GOOD LOOKS LIST posts.
