monster mash

Last but not least for a bit of fun and games at the Monster High Halloween party I downloaded some of the games from the Monster High website - they have a great choice from making paper bead necklaces to simple tasks like this mad maze! And all you need to do is print!

UP TO NO GOOD - Happy Halloween

the witch's garden

Halloween is not a Swiss tradition, but as we live in Zug, a very "international" canton of Switzerland, the girls get to dress up for school in Halloween costumes and I decided to do a little bit of decorations in our house (I altered the Monster High table here and there) and if anyone should knock on our door tonight I will be prepared with candy!

Wishing you all a Happy Halloween!

SOMETHING GOOD - Lipstick Push Up Pops

luscious lips

How clever is this idea for a girlie party? Coloured ice cream or cake is placed in push up pops to look like lipstick!

GOOD ON PAPER - Halloween Treats

spooky poo

Halloween is tomorrow and Bailey's school has asked the moms bring along some Halloween inspired food. I now know how my mom felt when we would "surprise" her with Cake and Candy requests at the last possible moment. Luckily, I had a bit of a brainwave and made these little "ghost poop" popcorn bags - really easy - even I can make popcorn!

BAD LOOKS - Monster High Halloween Dessert Table

devilish desserts

The main focus of the Monster High Halloween was the dessert table.

The sweet food included pink, orange and brown "monster macarons", green gummy frog sweets, Lindt "black" chocolate balls and mini meringues.

Instead of a cake, I stacked some doughnuts and "decorated" the tower with Draculaura (luckily for me the dolls are designed to be pulled apart!).

GOOD FUN - Farewell Cake

the end of a bromance

I thought for a little fun, I would share a mini project I did last week. My husband's boss and mentor left the company after 14 years to go pursue new things, and for his last day I suggested Liam take some cake. But instead of a typical one, I bought this one for a good laugh and made some mini cake bunting to go with. Needless to say it was a hit!

GOOD ON PAPER - November Calendar

only two months to go...

and then it is another new year. Time flies so fast these days, so I really do like this month's calendar message as even though it is nearing close to the New Year, there is still a great many days to do a great many things. So I am really going to try hard to get a lot done this month!

ghoul juice

One could create a separate drinks station, but for our Monster High Halloween I included the drinks as part of the dessert table.

I filled some glass apothecary style jars with different brightly coloured syrups to make juices and alongside I placed the funky Monster High straws I found at the local toy store and a little chalkboard tag bearing "slimy syrup".

Plus, you should also check out this awesome recipe I found on the Monster High website.

nearly here!

As you may have noticed we have started to sneak in some of our Christmas goodies into the shop and online. And very, very shortly we will be sharing our Christmas Catalogue - showcasing all of our Christmas goodness. So here is a little sneak peek at the cover - shot by the ever-so-talented Vanessa Lewis.

BAD LOOKS - A Monter High Halloween Decorations

daring décor

With the "big reveal" of the Monster High Halloween Dessert Table tomorrow, today I thought I would show oyu some close ups of the décor elements that I included. All of these items can easily be translated to an actual sit down table itself.

The Backdrop
Here I finally used the ornate would-you-believe-it plastic frame I bought 3 years ago from IKEA. I have been meaning to use so many times, and now it got a great debut! I didn't hang it on the wall but just leaned it against it, and then stuck a few creepy spiders alongside (a must for any Halloween themed party).

The Centrepieces
Every dessert table has one or two arrangements incorporated with the food and/or drinks. I was inspired by the "high school" element of the party, and stacked a pile of old books. On the other side of the table I placed a small typical school chalkboard and wrote "punishment lines" and added a pumpkin. And lastly, inside a glass bell jar I placed a plastic skull I bought from the toy store.

The Flowers
I kept the flowers to a minimum, and simply placed inside one tall (IKEA again) white vase, a black satin rose and another shorter white vase the black leaf from the rose and some black netting (which I up-cycled as it was actually the packaging that the black spiders came in!). In addition, I had some apple candles (you guessed it - from IKEA) that I placed on top of baroque candlesticks.

The Little Extras
And to complete the theme, I added in some Monster High stickers to mini chalkboard labels, some food picks and themed paper napkins. oh! And how creepy is that slimy slug I found!

Tune in tomorrow for the overall look!

dress to impress

It goes without saying that half the fun of a Halloween Party is the dressing up part. Encourage your guests to dress up, by including details on your invitation and having a best/worst/most original competition with prizes!

Also, what makes getting dressed up extra fun for a Monster High Halloween party is their website allows you to upload photos to the website and create "Student ID cards" and photo booth strips aka "Class photos".

This will be a fun activity to do as guests arrive, as you will be able to keep them busy whilst they wait for the other guests and you will be sure to capture them in full costume. Snap a photo of each child with your phone/camera, connect to your PC and then fill out the necessary details and print out their ID cards and class photos to keep. You can even go as far as my one friend who has a small desk laminator, and laminate the actual cards and pics - a good idea for favours!

If you are not able to do this as part of the actual party, you may wish to still take a photo of each child and then you can do the updating at a later stage and email/print these out as part of your thank you cards.

Or like me, you could do this before the party, as the website also allows you to create the cards and photos using cartoon faces, that way you can send the ID card and photos as part of the invitation, or hand out as soon as the guests arrive.

at your peril...

One of the key elements we discussed when planning a character themed party is to double or triple up on your party theme, thereby eliminating character overload. This is where I incorporated both typical Halloween and back to school party goodies too.

Luckily, for me one of our shop's Halloween ranges: The Breathless Banquet suits the Monster High colour palette and overall look, so to welcome the guests to the party, all I have to do is string up the door signs...
