SOMETHING GOOD - A Good Idea

fluttering favour

So I am continuing to send ideas for Mothers Day to my sister Christine, and I think she will go for this one:

- Set the table with white linen, tableware and glassware. (I actually spotted some lovely pink glass goblets at Woolies so maybe she should get a set of these).
- Place a vase of pretty pink blooms in the table centre.
- Pretty up each place setting with floral napkins and pink ribbon: fold paper ones in a band and wrap around plain white linen ones - tie fast with pink ribbon.
- Give the guests an edible treat placed inside white butterfly shaped favour boxes.

keep calm

With the Royal Wedding tomorrow and Mothers Day next Sunday, we thought this free poster printable was perfect for you to print, cut and present! t literally takes 5 minutes to download, print and frame and you can make it as big as you like - in fact you can even have it printed at your local Minuteman Press or Jetline Printers onto canvas for a pretty awesome picture in your kitchen/hall/bedroom etc.

Download the three colour options here:
Red
Honeysuckle Pink
Turquoise Blue

This would make a great card, combine with one of our cupcake kits like this Flowers in Bloom Cupcake Kit from Meri Meri for a very thoughtful Mothers Day gift (but no baking on Sunday!).

GOOD TASTE - Menu Ideas

trifle trickery

With the royal wedding now only a few days away, the excitement is mounting. I was super pleased to find this recipe from Ceci Events Newsletter on how to make the traditional trifle! But I am not sure I will do the whole thing myself, do you think anyone will notice if I just did layers of cake, cream and strawberries?

pretty placemats

Okay, so I was super excited to share yesterday's idea with my sister Christine for Mothers Day, but her first word was "and?". I should have known, there was no way she was going to accept only one idea, so I have continued my "research" and I found these pretty place mats on The Pretty Blog. All she would have to do is push print and she has a stunning place setting for each guest at the lunch table.

Also, if she is not going to do the whole big lunch/tea thing, she can just use one to line a tray and make my mom a nice cup of tea and alongside place some yummy sweet treats.

GOOD RIDDANCE - Reuse, Recycle, Renew

tea towels for a tween

In our latest issue of the Good Newsletter for our Good Riddance feature we show you all different ways to use tea towels besides just using them to dry the dishes. So ever since doing the article I have been finding even more ways to use them and Sarah Richardson from Sarah 101 created an entire room based on one.

Sarah used a pretty tea towel for her colour scheme and theme for a girls bedroom. She also used the actual tea towel itself in the room, by making a little laundry bag from two towels being sewn together.

I actually think I may decide to do a whole party based on a tea towel - what do you think?

SOMETHING GOOD - A Good Idea

pressed place setting

Who knew Mothers Day is just around the corner! I have been looking for some inspiration for my sister to do something special for my mom, as I am here in Switzerland but she will be in Jo'burg. The only thing is, it has to be super easy, Christine is very good at many things - party design not so much.

I spotted this idea over at Martha Stewart, and whilst our shop does not have glass plates, we do have pretty square 30 x 30cm glass plate chargers for hire. So really all that she has to do is buy a pretty bunch of flowers, press some of them between the pages of the phone book, set the table all in white and place a vase of the flowers in the centre. Then set a sheet of white paper at each place setting, place the pressed flowers on top in an ad hoc design and set the glass plate charger on top! And if she is feeling particularly creative she can add some of the pressed flowers to place cards or make a Mothers Day card.

GOOD LOOKS - Themed Parties

royal tea break

Just been checking out the time difference between the UK and SA/Switzerland and it is one hour - perfect! That means when Kate is just about to walk down the Westminister Abbey it will be 12 o'clock lunch time. The perfect opportunity to "annex" the board room at your place of work and host a royal tea party.

This table from the pages of the UK Kitchen, Bedrooms and Bathrooms May 2011 serves as the ideal inspiration: bunting, cupcake stands, platters, plates and napkins. All available here from In Good Company, and we deliver too!

UP TO GOOD - Behind the Scenes

the great big easter hunt

Yesterday afternoon, the Easter Bunny was spotted in the field alongside our apartment, so the girls were quick to grab their baskets and go hunting!

Afterwards, besides eating a lot of chocolate, we also enjoyed one of Switzerland's Easter baked specialities: Osterfladen. It is hard to explain what it is, a bit like "melktart" but not as sweet and it has raisins in it.

I can't believe Easter is nearly over for the year, it felt like yesterday that I put up our wreath. Fortunately, it looks quite springy so I can keep it up a lit bit longer. The nice thing about Switzerland is everyone loves decorating for all of the holidays, even the area by our post boxes hints at the season. I hope you had a blessed weekend too!

GOOD LIFE - Real Life Parties

little lamb

Our family doesn't have "concrete" Easter traditions save for one. My mom always cooks the most amazing "Sunday Roasted Lamb Lunch". So whilst both my sister and brother are at my parents this year and will enjoy the full spread, I thought this was as good a time as any to do it myself. I had to mix things up a bit, as on Sunday we have other Eastery plans, so I opted for the big lunch yesterday and here are some of the little things that I did.

- With lamb being on the menu, I decided to incorporate it into other elements. Fortunately, the bakeries here in Switzerland take Easter very seriously and I was able to find a lamb shaped sponge cake as the "centrepiece" and little ones for dessert! The gold necklace around the lamb's neck was quite the incentive for the girls to see who would eat all their vegetables first!
- When planning a party, I can't do without a few party printables, they are just the best thing to add that little bit of detail. Without a "lamb" collection, I opted for a colour theme, and our Green Polka Dot Printable Party worked perfectly.
- The menu included a mixed salad with "Apéro Möckli" (little cheese cubes) and "Rosettes en pate feuilletée" (little rosettes of puff pastry). I got this idea of having two of these peeking out from behind the salad leaves to look like little bunny ears from One Charming Party.
- I used some green grass squares to run down the centre of my table, and these worked great as trivets for the cooked food.
- And no luncheon would be complete without some Lindt - how lucky for me they made little lamb ones!
- This Little Lamb theme got me thinking, it would be quite a cute idea for a baby shower or baptism.
