happy, happy
Now this really is a party in an instant and on a penny! All I bought to create this polka dot frenzy were some circle stickers from the stationery store and a bag of balloons from the supermarket. Total cost R25!
Then I stuck the polka dots onto the plate rims, champagne glasses and some white pillar candles. Tied ALOT of balloons to some ribbon and made a garland all around the room. And for little favours tied some sparklers to coloured polka dot card. Done!
Wishing you all a very Good New Year, can't wait for all the new exciting things we have planned for 2011!

GOOD EXAMPLE - Party Inspiration Board
here comes 2011
I have just decided it would be fun to throw a little bit of a party for New Years Eve. Especially after reading the latest Martha Stewart Living Magazine. The January issue has a great "Happy Birthday" article brimming with bright ideas, so I will definitely be putting some of these to use. I don't have a detailed inspiration board, but I think this image from tinyprints sums it all up quite nicely.

UP TO GOOD - Behind the Scenes
last minute
Here are a few last minute Christmas shopping pics. I took when we went into Luzern today - my favourite must be the old building that is made up into a giant advent calendar - notice how all the windows are open except for the 24th - one day to go! Have a very Merry Christmas!

GOOD TIES - 101 Ways with(out) Ribbon
no ribbon?
At In Good Company, our love for ribbon is a bit obsessive and we are always looking for ways to use it everywhere and on everything. Well, whilst wrapping my girls' Christmas pressies, I actually found a reason not to use ribbon! Shock, horror - I know! I just figured that using some of these pretty things might be a better, cost effective and longer lasting alternative.

GOOD FUN - Party Fun
christmas everywhere
I just had to share this with you all! I was shopping in our local grocery store and just had to buy a packet. Is a bag of Christmas washing up cloths taking Christmas décor a bit too far? Last year, I even found "pine needle scented" toilet paper (must be all sold out this year!).

GOOD LIFE - Real Life Parties
swiss christmas
On display at Zurich's largest and only typical "shopping mall" they had set up centre court a typical Swiss Chalet all decorated for Christmas. So here are some quick snaps and a few tips that one can def. put to good use.
GOOD TIPS:
Fit the room, don't fight it
Match your Christmas theme to the current decor of your room. This "Country Christmas" look works so well because it is set up in rustic wooden chalet. A fancy and opulent theme would just not have had the same impact.
Pack away
A good first step for decorating for any party is to "hide" away any items that don't suit your party theme or colours, it is better to have fewer items that co ordinate than a whole host of goodies that draw attention away from the look you are going after.
Buy seasonal items
Instead of buying decorations for "Christmas" consider buying decorations that suit the season first, and your party secondary. That way you can decorate your home all season long rather than just for one day. Here many elements would work all winter long: the antlers, the reeindeer napkin rings, the skis, the logs in a basket etc.
Invest in quality tableware
Many of the items used for this display are not Christmassy at all and work well for all sorts of other celebrations: the three tiered white metal stand, neutral linens, white dinnerware, clear glassware and silver flatware. Don't be tempted by the "cute" Christmas tableware if you first need to build up a smart collection of the basics.
Colour co ordinate everything
Decide on a colour scheme early on and stick to it. Plan that your wreath matches your tree matches your table matches your wrapped gifts. It may seem overkill but actually all of these elements will be on show come Christmas Day, so for a cohesive look follow through with your colour scheme.
