swiss christmas
On display at Zurich's largest and only typical "shopping mall" they had set up centre court a typical Swiss Chalet all decorated for Christmas. So here are some quick snaps and a few tips that one can def. put to good use.
GOOD TIPS:
Fit the room, don't fight it
Match your Christmas theme to the current decor of your room. This "Country Christmas" look works so well because it is set up in rustic wooden chalet. A fancy and opulent theme would just not have had the same impact.
Pack away
A good first step for decorating for any party is to "hide" away any items that don't suit your party theme or colours, it is better to have fewer items that co ordinate than a whole host of goodies that draw attention away from the look you are going after.
Buy seasonal items
Instead of buying decorations for "Christmas" consider buying decorations that suit the season first, and your party secondary. That way you can decorate your home all season long rather than just for one day. Here many elements would work all winter long: the antlers, the reeindeer napkin rings, the skis, the logs in a basket etc.
Invest in quality tableware
Many of the items used for this display are not Christmassy at all and work well for all sorts of other celebrations: the three tiered white metal stand, neutral linens, white dinnerware, clear glassware and silver flatware. Don't be tempted by the "cute" Christmas tableware if you first need to build up a smart collection of the basics.
Colour co ordinate everything
Decide on a colour scheme early on and stick to it. Plan that your wreath matches your tree matches your table matches your wrapped gifts. It may seem overkill but actually all of these elements will be on show come Christmas Day, so for a cohesive look follow through with your colour scheme.
