cocktails and candy

As you know Halloween is always HUGE overseas, so this year follow the crowd and celebrate! Here is our Halloween Party Inspiration Board made up of a few of our favourite Halloween party photos from the web, but be sure to be seriously flooded with ideas when you do your own searching…

INSPIRATION
Halloween is a great occasion to have a party, especially a dress up one. So invite your guests, both young and old for cocktails and candy – and insist on the dress up code. For an informal occasion set up two buffet tables, one for cocktails and mocktails and another for dessert. For a formal table focus your attention and decorations to the dining room table.

THINGS WE LOVE:
- The orange Chinese paper lanterns and paper daisies decorated with or without faces.
- The use of black paper to make silhouettes of animals: cats, mice and bat wings and how these are placed in empty frames, or pushed into pumpkins.
- Instead of flowers, using pumpkins in all different sizes and colours.
- The glass jars filled with colour co-ordinating sweets: makes for great décor, food and favours all in one.

COLOURS
Our colour palette is a bit of a no brainer: bone white, pumpkin orange and black as soot. A predictable palette but one that easily conveys the Halloween theme. But we definitely like the idea of these alternatives:

For a Monster Mash
Black, orange and slimy green.
GOOD IDEA: For the main meal, have a fondue – the whole “food on a skewer” has a monster/ogre feel about it.

For a Witches Lair
Black, purple and orange.
GOOD IDEA: Serve a punch in a potjie pot, add some gummy worms.

For Vampires
Black, white and blood red.
GOOD IDEA: Melt red wax over white candles to look like dripping blood.

And for something completely different:
White Wonder
An all white-on-white colour scheme.
GOOD IDEA: Source or spray paint pumpkins white, and use only white linen, tableware, white flowers – even an all-white menu.
