SOMETHING GOOD - Wedding Cake Trends

eat cake

This photo from our Wedding Inspirations feature showcases some popular trends in cakes right now:

- The "non-wedding" cake. Many brides are opting for non traditional cakes. So unique flavours like this one is a Tirmasu cake and my new personal favourite flavour: red velvet.

- The "uniced and layered" cake. Whilst not for everyone, for a very rustic homemade feel, brides may opt for a cake where multiple layers are iced together but the cake as a whole is left bare.

- The wooden doll cake topper. Instead of the traditional porcelain bride and groom, creative brides are crafting little look-a-likes out of wooden peg dolls.

- Mini cake bunting. Nothing is safe from bunting! And with just a pair of scissors and some thread, a lace cupcake wrapper was transformed into mini heart cake bunting. A quick but cute DIY for the bride.

- Multiple cakes. Why have one cake when you can have more than one? Let your guests eat cake I say! Either create a cake dessert table featuring all the cakes in a beautiful display, or do what we did here and have a cake on each table, not only is it an additional décor item, but later in the reception the bride and groom can cut the cake at each table with the guests enjoying the moment right up and centre.

- Cut the Cake. Make the cutting of the cake extra special with a cake serving set inspired by those from BHLDN featuring the turn phrase "EAT CAKE". Your first family heirloom to be enjoyed at many celebrations to come.

- Coloured cake stands. With so much focus on baking these days, it was inevitable that the white or glass cake stand would take a back seat, and now one can get stunning stands in a range of pretty shades: pink, jade, blue, red and buttercream.

And whilst some of these ideas may not be suited to your wedding day style they make for great bridal shower and party ideas too!
