UP TO GOOD - Behind the Scenes

One of the things that I love about being in SA is that I get to physically assist all my family and friends with parties. Really excited this weekend as I am helping out with my friend's little boy's baptism. It is going to be stunning if I say so myself and the theme is a goodie! All to be revealed next week.
So today I went flower shopping, and I have to say I was a little bit disappointed with what was on offer - Jo'burg winter is just not great for floral fantasies. But never fear our final choice is actually perfect for the look and not at all part of the original plan.
But I did get a little bit nostalgic for this gorgeous floral shop that is down the road from me in Switzerland. Doesn't it just make you want to quit your job and start growing flowers and selling them on the side of the road?

So things are coming along slowly with our move, and I have resigned myself to the fact that not everything will be perfect come August 1st. But going to really push for August 13th - as that is our official Open House party and you are all invited - more details to follow of course!
In the interim I am having a bit of fun deciding what to decorate our walls with (however maybe too much) as now I have way too many ideas for too little wall space. But this giant resin cutler set is a definite! (better order some more in - as I am not letting this pair go!).

Things are going to be a little slow in the next two weeks, so we apologise for any delays, but we are in the process of moving to our new shop in Parkhurst, hoping to be all done by the end of the month. So, when I saw this idea over at the Kate Spade Blog, I knew this was something we were going to have to do. And I am now waiting "patiently" for our little dotty parcel to arrive from Single Stone Studios.

GOODIES - Our Online Shop

Planning a milestone birthday for a grown up can sometimes be a little tricky, as you don't want it to look too much like a wedding, but you do want to do something memorable. This got me thinking about what could you do that is a little bit of "entertainment" without having to hire a professional dancer/singer/performer/fireworks company.... and then I remembered our sky lanterns! And found these gorgeous photos at Oh Happy Day!
What an easy (and affordable way) to involve your guests in putting on a little "show". Ask each of your guests to write a wish on a paper sky lantern for the guest of honour (possibly duplicate these in a notebook). Then have them release these into the night sky all at the same time.

QUICK FARMYARD PARTY TIPS:
- Ask all your guests to dress the part and come in their jeans and dungarees!
- Save all those glass Purity jars and bottles and wrap around around the printable party patterned paper to make country-style vases. Fill with typical super market bought chrysanthemums or sunflowers.
- Fill glass jam jars with juice, red retro paper straws and decorate with the printable party jar labels.
- Find little baskets and pop in some juicy red apples for an edible centrepiece.
- Raid the toy box for all those little plastic farm animals, or buy a whole bunch from Toys R Us/Toyzone use them on the table, as cupcake toppers and then give one to each guest when they leave as a little party favour.
- Use bamboo cutlery and red polka dot plates, cups and napkins from our shop - embellish with the printable party circle tags for a customised look!
- Using pinking shears cut up some red gingham or polka dot fabric (or even use typical check red and white tea towels) then peg onto string with typical wooden brown pegs and you have a garland with no sewing required!

Donna Hay's Annual Kids Magazine Annual Issue definitely deserves that title. I just spotted on their website that their new issue is in fact for sale (and online)! And just checking out the cover alone has me so excited, so I have not only ordered my copy but a few extras just in case someone would like one.
Also, every year CNA does not disappoint and they get the magazine in, but be sure to check out their magazine section regularly and you must be quick as I promise you one day they are there and the next day all gone!
Now I can't wait for mine to arrive, will be sure to share my favourite bits!

One of the best ideas I have seen for a long time, was at Debbie's Christmas Course (www.cookstudio.co.za) and I was just fondly reminded of it when checking out the Donna Hay website (I am stalking it daily as I know their kids issue is due this month).
Basically it allows you to customise your napkins in one easy step: all you do is take a rubber stamp and some fabric craft paint and stamp on the design to linen napkins. And if it is a very special occasion you can have a custom rubber stamp made up.
For overseas readers, try etsy for a wide selection of vendors, and if you are in SA, go to Rubber Stamp and Engraving and they can pretty much do anything. I remember when I was getting married I went there and while I waited they made me a stamp!

What could possible be better than a set of pretty washi tape rolls? Ones that are decorated with traditional Cath Kidston prints, I say! GOOD HOUSE - Our New Shop

Now that we have the keys to our new shop, we are all in a bit of a tizz trying to get everything ready for the end of the month. The idea was to actually have the keys at the beginning of March but as I am sure anyone who has ever bought a property can relate to the fact that nothing every really goes according to plan, and so our renovation plans of over 5 months have been dramatically cut to a quick 3 week "makeover". A bit of a challenge but hopefully all those weekends of watching the Home Channel will pay off!
One thing in my favour is I had been imagining one or two signature pieces of furniture on the shop floor to bring in a pop of colour, and I was relieved to find EXACTLY what I was looking for in the gorgeous designs of Carine Goss.
Dodo Design selects pre-owned, structurally sound furniture and embellishes it to create unique hand-painted pieces. Dodo lives up to its adage of "allowing people to have a bespoke furniture in their home at an affordable price."

GOOD NEWS - What's Up

Our blog has been a bit quiet this week, but to make up for it, we have some really BIG news to share. In Good Company is moving! Yeah! We are now the proud owners of a real "Good House" on 6th Street in Parkhurst.
We don't want to commit to an exact opening date as of yet; as what was supposed to take place over a few months has now been squashed into the next three weeks, so hopefully come early August In Good Company will be in our new shiny and happy shop.
So, lots of lovely things to look forward to:
