GOOD LOOKS - Themed Parties

goodwill hunting

For our Marigold and Pewter Easter Tablescape, we were able to find some really "cheap but chic" goodies - here are our top tips:

SHOP AHEAD
The little wooden chicks and egg tags were on sale in one of the house department shops here "Das Depot". The trick for anyone looking to pull off a seasonal party on a budget is to plan ahead. Shop at the end of last season sales for the following year. You will get huge discounts (I only paid 30% of the original price) and also try to shop for goodies that are not overly "fashionable" and can possible be used for other occasions too.

SHOP AROUND
The little yellow and grey antique glasses were from Spar! I know you would never have said so, and it was by sure chance that I found them. They were in this really basic plastic looking box right at the bottom of shelf tucked in the back. When you are bargain hunting you don't need a lot of money, but you do need time. So, plan to spend double the time you usually would go shopping and go to the shops you normally go to. But this time go with your party "thinking hat" on and trawl each and every aisle. A good place to start first - try the hardware store!

SHOP AT HOME
Recently, I did a big spring clean, and I was actually relieved that I had done it on my own. I think if my husband had seen all the party stuff I actually own he would have had a heart attack. The scary thing is many of the items I didn't even know I had. So before you go party shopping first do a test run of the table using everything you have on hand, and then make a shopping list for the obvious gaps. For our Easter party, I knew I wanted to have little potted flowers on the table and I nearly bought little wooden buckets luckily I found that I already had. The only problem is I thought I didn't have any moss or yellow ribbon - both of which I did.

What "bargain" tips do you have? We would love for you to share...
