SOMETHING GOOD - A Good Thing

mad fan

One of my favourite things to do on a Friday is read Cap Classique's Love List, Gaby picks up all the best bits of the wedding blogs and creates a lovely visual feast so that brides can get a quick summary of all the wonderful new ideas and inspirations out there.

I love this idea she spotted this week at a real wedding, the bride had printed on her ceremony fans "mad libs", so guests not only got a programme and a fan, but also could have a bit of fun while they waited for the bride to arrive - now that is multi-tasking at it's best.

SOMETHING GOOD - A Good Thing

popped with love

Do you love the idea of a sweet desserts table, but no so much sweets? I love this idea spotted over at Style Me Pretty, where various tall glass jars were filled with different flavours of popcorn with little popcorn boxes for guests to fill. A great and "healthy" alternative to candy, and you can still offer both sweet and savoury alternatives. Another bonus is that this is a lot more cost effective, and is a good choice for a kids party.

SOMETHING GOOD - A Good Thing

If you are planning a birthday party for a young little girl or boy, an "on the farm" theme is a really good idea - I especially think this idea of having egg box party packs is genius - check out Stem Fabulous Parties for more party fun and details. GOOD AS NEW - To Hire

sprinkles

We have been raving all summer about having an Ice Cream Social Party, and we have one more reason for you to do it! In my little shopping trip to Woolies guess what I found! This giant ceramic ice cream jar. Isn't it awesome?

It retails at R90 and comes with sweets inside (not a lot though - but then I only really wanted the jar). It will make the perfect centrepiece for your "Make your own Ice Cream Station".

And even you do not go the whole hog with a full blown ice cream party, get the jar and fill it with ice and place mini Magnums or Cornettos inside for your next braai's dessert.

Okay, I better run and go and get another two or three! Then you can always hire mine if you like.

GOOD FUN - Fun and Favours

pirates and princesses

I have been back in SA for just under week and the first time I went to the shops was yesterday! Must be a record for me. We didn't get very far as I pretty much was in Woolies for about 2 hours, and then the shops closed at 6. Not that I am complaining the shops in Switzerland close at 4 on Saturdays and nothing is open on a Sunday - and when I say nothing, I mean NOT A THING!

I was so impressed with the new Sandton Woolies - looking really smart, but what got me really excited was their kiddies Christmas sweets and treats range. As these would make great party favours and co ordinate so nicely with our new Meri Meri Party Range!

THINGS WE LOVE:
The pirate chocolate slab with a pirate badge for R10. Great for giving as part of a pirate party invitation.
The little treasure chest that includes 4 little rubber stamps, an ink pad with four colours and some gold chocolate coins. And at R50 it is actually really good value for a party favour as it has pretty much everything that you would need to give: gift, sweets and cute packaging.
The princess tiara (really good quality) in a pretty pink organza bag with feather trim and a pack of mini heart shaped marshmallows for R40.

(On a side note: if you are planning a party in advance be sure to check the best before date, so you don't end up getting goodies that will expire before the party).

GOODIES - Our Online Shop

More great Christmas goodies keep arriving on our door step - like these gift tags designed by Sambellina. Each pack of 12 contains 3 designs and 4 of each. Plus their is another set (still need to take a pic for you all) but it is in classic red white or turquoise blue with just "merry christmas" on it. Nice!

GOOD PRESS - In The News

the glossy pages

What a wonderful little surprise today! Lauren from Glossary sent me a mail that she did a blog post about us. What she failed to say was how really, really awesome the blogpost was. If it didn't have our name in it I would have thought it was another company and would have immediately started shopping up a storm!

Thanks so much Lauren, and my whole morning was put on hold as I read your cool blog too...

GOOD GUIDE - Our Catalogue

twice as nice

Remember we said that we had two parts to our Christmas Catalogue - well we weren't lying and the 2nd part is finally here and is twice as long and twice as better. Jam packed with Christmas party products and gifts; you are going to find it hard to decide what you want to get. We have tried to make it a little easier by grouping the goodies along theme lines, but I still can't decide which one I like best? What is your favourite?

p.s. download the whole catalogue here.

GOOD LIFE - Real Life Parties

girly get-together

For the Party of the Week Good Life feature for our Lovebirds theme, nothing could be more appropriate than Christine Meintjes Kitchen Tea that her mom and sister hosted. The bridal shower is perfection in every way, so without further ado here is a sneak peek, and for the full article - pop on over to The Pretty Blog.

Anelle from Seven Swans is getting married real soon, so I am amazed that she manages to find the time to come up with all these wonderful ideas for The Pretty Blog! Yesterday she designed this "Love Letter" template and it is such a cool printable, and I love that it is not "bride" specific - so download, print and send your love to your significant other!

IN GOOD HANDS - Craft Project

napkin bunting

If you haven't seen Kika La Ru's cake bunting, well be prepared to be even more in love with bunting, if that is at all possible. This idea of little bunting flags in miniature got us thinking, and we created similar little pennants to decorate our Love Birds Party of the Week napkins. Super easy to do, and with our new yummy bakers twine having just arrived from Divine Twine, you have all you need to make your own.

MATERIALS
Bakers Twine
Coloured paper
Scissors
Needle

DIRECTIONS
1. Cut little miniature triangles.
2. In the top two coroners of the triangle push through tiny holes with a needle.
3. Thread through bakers twine.
4. Tie around napkin rings.

SOMETHING GOOD - A Good Thing

barbeton beautiful

Decorations for a ceremony are a tricky thing. You don't want to spend thousands and thousands of rands, but also don't want to do nothing. Don't you think this idea is stunning? A gerbera flower on every chair, all in one colour!

chick love

The Wedding Chicks is a fantastic website not only for inspiration but if you are looking for amazing free printables then this is ideal. Their designs are always ahead of the pack, and I don't know how they do it but not only are their printables free but you can customise the colours and the text all by yourself and click a submit button and two seconds later the customised goodie is in your inbox. How incredible is that!

For our Love Birds Party of the Week, their Bunting Save the Date and Stationery Suite was perfect, and included a colour scheme of soft reds, pinks and yellows that suited our colour palette perfectly. We created a Save the Date, Invitation, RSVP card, Table Number and Tented place cards all in a matter of minutes and for nothing.

So be sure to check out their website, and who knows you might find just what you are looking for, for your wedding, or how about the bridal shower or bridesmaids luncheon?

GOOD LOOKS - Themed Parties

love birds

Many a bride often has post wedding day blues. After spending months and months (sometimes even years) planning your big day, you find yourself at a bit of a loss. No more trawling the internet for ideas, no appointments with the florist and dressmaker, no more crafting your own personal DIY projects. So, we have found the perfect solution!

Gather your closet friends, most likely many from the original bridal party, put to use all those wonderful goodies that you got from your gift registries, and have a First Year Anniversary Dinner Party!

INVITATION
The Gift of Paper
With the traditional first anniversary gift being paper, it goes without saying that your stationery suite must be something special. We will share all the details about this stunning collection from The Wedding Chicks in our IN GOOD HANDS column on Wednesday.

DECORATIONS
Home Sweet Home
This is a great opportunity to entertain in your own home, so rather than buy “disposable party goodies” invest in one or two home décor items that you may have had your eye on that will permanently make your living space something special. New cushions for the lounge? A set of brightly coloured vases?

TOP TIP:
Consider using décor items from elsewhere in your home for the dinner party: in this case our little bird house and white ceramic birds were actually from a bedroom.

TABLE
Complete the Collection
Setting the table should be no problem, hopefully you got everything you need as part of your gift registries: table linen, crockery, cutlery, glassware. For anything that is lacking, consider using this as the excuse to get the last bits and pieces to complete your collection. Especially, as you don’t want to be two years down the line and find that the items have subsequently been discontinued.

TOP TIP:
If you are struggling to find a fabric to suit your colour scheme, consider looking in the bed linen section of the shop, our tablecloth is in fact a new Pip Studio Bed Sheet. Most of the time, the bed linen is cotton, which is pretty much exactly the same thing that is used for most tablecloths. So with a little bit of cutting and hemming, you will have an original tablecloth.

Love is in the details
I love the idea of using the same flowers that you used on your wedding day for the flower arrangements. Possibly, you would like to do the exact same design, or maybe try something a little different. In this case, uncomplicated bunches of pinks peonies were arranged in all different shapes and sizes of white vases.

TOP TIP:
Personalise each place setting with pretty place cards and miniature paper bunting napkin rings. For our party, we included each guest’s name on the place card but added below their wedding day role “bridesmaid”, “bestman” etc.

MENU
Dinner Deja vu
For something special, consider replicating one or all of the courses from your wedding day. If you are like most brides, this will probably be the first time that you actually enjoy it! Speaking of which, see if you can get your hands on the same wines, and naturally serve champagne – and as it is for only a few people, this time splash out on the really, really good stuff!

TOP TIP:
Take the pressure off trying to do a full three course meal by yourself, and spoil yourself too with the help of a caterer or how about contacting one of the many companies that specialise in making ready made home cooked meals.
Another idea I like to do is to divide the menu up into three categories:
Course 1 – something I am good at making and can do without even trying.
Course 2 – try something new and surprise myself and my guests – hopefully in a good way.
Course 3 – outsource – buy it already made or only requires minimal effort from my side.

FUN AND GAMES
Relive the moment
Hopefully by this time your wedding photo album is complete, so use this opportunity to show it off. You may also have your wedding day on video, so you could have a little mini screening. But the emphasis here is on “little”, just plan for about half an hour of reminiscing.

FAVOURS
Let them eat cake
Have your wedding cake design and flavours made up into cupcakes, package these in little cupcake boxes, tie on a disposable fork, and your guests can enjoy them on the way home or for a late night snack!

Be sure to check back tomorrow for all the details of how you can get this look!
