paint the town(house)
Our showroom as mentioned before looks more like a warehouse than a partyhouse. But we have a plan… or at least I think we do!
So let me start off by giving you a quick run down of THE GOOD HOUSE. It is a townhouse, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, enclosed kitchen, dining room and lounge, a courtyard and garden, all situated in a complex with a big park, tennis court and swimming pool. I love it! Well, I should - this is where I have lived my whole life (that is until I got married) – so it is only fitting that In Good Company to is “born” here and stays a while until it grows up!
I don’t have “before” pictures of our unit which is actually a real pity because already some of the things we have done have made a vast improvement!
Do you know that 70’s green? The one that usually sits nicely alongside its friend that 70’s orange? Yes, these two mates lived freely and peacefully for years in our kitchen and bathroom. Until it was time to take a trip to the future. I know you have heard it all before by our first GOOD HOUSE TIP is paint!
If you have a tight budget (like we do) and big renovations are out of the question, visit your local hardware store for DIY paint solutions:
We painted those retro tiles a nice clean white with some simple strokes of tile primer and enamel paint.
We painted the old wooden kitchen cupboards a happy shiny white.
And we painted what were lilac (or at least I think they were) bedroom walls a nice shade of taupe. That is actually not true it is called “French Linen”. Yes, I love how paints are given such imaginative names, I remember for a few years at my parent’s house we lived in “Butter Cream” and Zara’s nursery was “Candyfloss”. Honestly, I think half the time I pick my colour based on the name as opposed to the actual shade! I spend forever at those hardware boards with all the samples…
Speaking of which here are some fun GOOD RIDDANCE ideas for those paint chips…
1) mini garland in bright colours
2) invitation to a gender announcement party, attach a pink and blue paint strip
“Which colour will the nursery be?
Come to our “It’s a ____?” party
And you will see!”
3) girls night out party “paint the town red” and naturally a red strip
4) colour flash cards for teaching little ones
5) scrapbooking
6) bookmark invitations for a house warming
Can you think of some more ideas? Leave a comment below and we might just love it so much we will send you a little thank you (I promise it won’t be paint chips!).
