When I first arrived in Switzerland back in 2004, I noticed one special thing that I never thought I took much interest in and now love so much. Flowers! And more specifically the florists here are something else. I stand to be corrected, but "floristry" is taken very seriously here and you have special degrees which take years to become one. This is all very evident in the quality and sheer artistry of the florists' work. And even the smallest town (like where we live) has the most amazing florist! Here are a few "Christmassy" pics that I took and some of their "tips" that I am picking up on.
1 Don't underestimate the power of a bit of lovely ribbon added to a basic arrangement or wreath. Take for example this green fir wreath below, it is something special with just a bit of ribbon and an ornament.
2 Flower arrangements do not need to be "flowery". A metal container like this crown filled with twigs, bark, pine cones and some season baubles makes for a rustic and unusual arrangement. (And bonus "long lasting!).
3 Just about every florist has other "decor" elements in addition to their bouquets and arrangements, so follow in their foot steps and rather than have one oversized arrangement, opt for a smaller floral one, and then include other elements like ornaments, candles, glass etc.
